We will be addressing current and future events pertaining to Team Farmington and Oakland County. Julie Brown will be there to speak also. Please show your support and plan on attending, especially if you are a parent of a Summer Games athlete. Hopefully, all athletes will have a parent/guardian in attendance.

Friday, November 12, 2010

Hi everybody. We are rolling along towards the end of Poly Hockey and gearing up for basketball. We are hoping to start Monday, November 29th, but haven't received confirmation from the school district yet. We will keep you informed. Athletes wishing to play basketball must have a health form that is good through March 26th, 2011. If you need to know your athlete's expiration date please contact Ted at tstern919@aol.com. We have a banquet December 1st at 6:00 in the cafeteria at Farmington High. An email reminder will be sent in the next 10 days or so.

NEW: All hockey uniforms must be turned in. Athletes will NOT be allowed to start another sport until I receive approval from Julie Goldberg.

We still have some lottery tickets available for the December drawings. Contact Melissa Barilla at melissa48335@yahoo.com.

We are looking for somebody to take charge of calendar sales. Please contact Ted if you can do it.

Lottery Fundraiser

Hi everybody. A new lottery fundraiser has started for Oakland County, and I believe I spoke briefly about it at our June banquet. This is based on the 3 digit number drawn Monday-Saturday at night. Team Farmington is responsible for selling 193 tickets (out of 1000). The drawings start October 1st and run through the end of the month. Each ticket costs $10.00 and is good for all drawings. The payout is $100.00 except for Mondays (the first 4 of each month), which pays $200.00. You may also pay $5.00 extra to box your number, meaning if your numbers are drawn but not in sequential order, you still win $35.00. Also, if your last number misses by one, you win $25.00. Example: The number is 246 - if you have 245 or 247 you win $25.00. You may want to get several tickets and sell them to others outside of our program. If paying by check, it should be made out to THV. If this fundraiser goes according to plan, it will go a long ways toward paying everybody's registration fees at events. When purchasing tickets, you can't pick your number, it will be whatever envelope you receive. Please contact Melissa Barilla for tickets at melissa48335@yahoo.com

Update

Hi everybody. I hope to keep this site updated now. We are still in limbo as far as a location for our office, storage and Poly Hockey season. We are planning a meeting for all of Team Farmington on Tuesday, September 7th at 6:30 pm. We are waiting to hear on the location. This meeting will update everybody on the state of Team Farmington, which is in a good place right now, other than the above mentioned situations, and also include information on Bowling and Poly Hockey.

Road Race
fundraiser is this Saturday. We are still looking for more volunteers. If you're interested, we will be arriving at Shiawassee Park (the pavilion) beginning at 6:00 am (not a typo), and the race starts at 8:00.

Soccer
has started, and if you're interested but haven't contacted anyone, please contact Dave Becks at lambecks@yahoo.com.

Poly Hockey will start early September, as soon as we get a gym.

Bowling
starts Saturday, September 11th at Drakeshire Lanes, at 1:30 pm. Please contact Howard Kuhn at kuhn04@earthlink.net for more info.

Just a few notes

Hi everybody. Soccer has come and gone and thanks to everybody that contributed to a successful season. Special thanks to David Becks, our soccer director and to Sylvia and Les Charbarneau for again securing Founders Sports Park for our practices. If anybody has digital photos from state socer and would like to post them here, please let me know. Hockey will be over next week for three of our teams, with the T-Birds attending state games in Lansing November 21st.

Some upcoming dates to remember are:

Saturday, November 7th Hockey invitational at MTC. We will be taking down the rink after the tournament and need help.

Monday, November 30th First basketball practice. More information will follow.

First week of December Winter Sports begin (Ski, Snowboard and Snowshoe).

December 2nd Banquet at Farmington High School beginning at 6:00 pm.

Registration meeting for Basketball and Winter Sports We don't have a date yet but the second or third week of November is being targeted. We considered November 9th but we won't have all of our directors in town. If you've heard that date for the meeting, it's not correct.

Special Olympics Michigan continues to feel the effects of our economy. We've already been informed of drastic cuts in our Summer Games numbers. In 2009 Oakland County received 300 spots for athletes and chaperones. In 2010 we will only have 177. There is also preliminary talk of combining the state Soccer and Poly Hockey tournaments next year, which means athletes will only be able to attend one. They will however, be able to play both sports in local competition (I think).

Soccer and more . . .

SOCCER
Hi everybody. Soccer starts on Wednesday, August 5th, at Founders Sports Park at 6:00 pm. Please contact David Becks to register at lambecks@yahoo.com. Practices will be every Wednesday through October 14th, with the state tournament in Warren October 16th and 17th. It's important that athletes show up to the first practice or let David know you want to play but can't make it the first night. Our local tournament date has not yet been confirmed but we are shooting for Sunday, October 4th at Farmington High School.

HOCKEY RINK SETUP
We will be setting up the rink on Friday, September 5th. We need more help than ever as we have lost some important helpers and most of all Mr. T. We are looking for parents to step up and take charge this year and future years. There has been some discussion on setting up the week before (thanks Sheila and Bernie) since September 5th is Labor Day weekend. We will again have more info as the date gets closer.

MANDATORY MEETING
We are planning a mandatory meeting for all Team Farmington families at Maxfield Traing Center on Tuesday, September 8th at 6:30 pm. Poly Hockey and Bowling will be starting that week. More information will follow as the date gets closer.
